Biography
Adeniyi Samuel is a versatile bass-baritone, composer, playwright, and educator whose artistry bridges Western classical, gospel, jazz, and African musical traditions through performance, scholarship, and creative leadership. Praised for his resonant tone, expressive depth, and captivating stage presence, he performs widely across the United States in opera, musical theater, gospel, jazz, sacred music, and African art music.
In Opera Arlington’s 2026 season, he will perform as Zuniga in Bizet’s Carmen and Sarastro in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute). His operatic repertoire includes Le Baron de Pictordu in Viardot’s Cendrillon (Cinderella), Commendatore (cover) in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Bartolo in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro with Sunnyside Opera and Temple University Opera Theater, Arkel in Debussy’s Impression de Pelléas, Blitch in scenes from Floyd’s Susannah, Frank (cover) in Strauss’s Die Fledermaus with Temple University Opera Theater, and Baron Campo-Tasso in Offenbach’s The Brigands with the Victorian Lyric Opera Company, Washington, D.C.
Beyond opera, Adeniyi’s theatrical and dramatic credits include Onochie in Ije the Musical (Los Angeles), Caesar in In Open Rebellion (Salem, MA), the Psalmist in Cry Innocent: A Reenactment of the 1692 Salem Witch Trials (Salem, MA), and Alabi in Journey to Africa with African Broadway (New York).
He also co-directed The Journey to Africa by Lydia Adesina and performed as Alabi. His performances integrate Western, gospel, jazz, and African music, often emphasizing themes of faith, identity, and renewal.
As a composer, playwright, and producer, Adeniyi has developed original works that fuse African narrative expression with Western, gospel, and jazz compositional techniques. His notable productions include Renewal: A Two-Man Musical: (addressing marital conflict from a Gospel-centered perspective), We Need a Savior: A One-Man Christmas Musical: (A Tale of the Birth of Christ from an African Perspective) with African, Western, gospel, and jazz influences), and the Spirit and Truth Worship Series (a published collection of hymns, psalms, and worship compositions). His works—produced through his organization SamOye Musical Consort, Inc.—have toured multiple U.S. states and received recognition for their spiritual depth, cultural synthesis, and musical excellence.
Adeniyi is the founder and artistic director of SamOye Musical Consort, Inc., a Fort Worth–based nonprofit production company and ensemble dedicated to creating spiritually and culturally enriching music that bridges African, gospel, jazz, and Western traditions. Since its founding in 2016, the organization has produced major musical works, including Renewal and We Need a Savior, and regularly performs at concerts, worship events, and festivals across the U.S.
A committed scholar and educator, Adeniyi serves as an adjunct voice instructor at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS), where he is also completing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Vocal Performance, Pedagogy, and Church Music. In addition to his academic and performance work, he runs a private virtual teaching studio, leads worship and directs a church choir, and consults for churches, providing specialized training for worship leaders and choirs in vocal technique, liturgical understanding, and artistic excellence.
He earned his Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Temple University (PA), Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with a minor in Musical Theater from Gordon College (MA), and an Associate Degree of Music in Vocal Performance and Education from the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON). He also holds Grade 8 certification in Singing from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), London.
His professional recognitions include First Place in the Adult TTB Classical Voice category at the 2021 Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). Through his performance, teaching, and creative leadership, Samuel continues to promote the integration of Western, gospel, jazz, and African artistry, advancing a vision of music that is spiritually grounded, culturally rooted, and artistically transformative.
